This Spiti Valley Road Trip Package from Chandigarh offers a private ten-day journey through Shimla district, Kinnaur, the cold-desert landscapes of Spiti Valley, Chandratal and Manali.
The route enters Spiti through Narkanda, Sangla, Kalpa, Nako and Tabo. This direction provides a more gradual increase in altitude before reaching Kaza and Chandratal.

Day 01 · Chandigarh to Narkanda via Shimla and Kufri
Pickup will be provided from Chandigarh Airport, Railway Station, a hotel or another agreed location within Chandigarh.
Meet your driver and begin the private journey towards Narkanda through Kalka, Solan and Shimla.
The approximate road distance is 170–185 kilometres, and the journey generally takes 5–7 hours depending on the pickup location, traffic, weather and road conditions.
Kufri or another accessible en-route point may be covered if pickup time, daylight and traffic conditions permit. Entrance tickets and activities are payable directly by the traveller.

Day 02 · Narkanda to Sangla via Hatu Peak and Rampur

Visit Hatu Peak and Hatu Temple if the selected vehicle, road condition, weather, available time and local access permit. The road towards the peak is narrow, and a separately operated local vehicle may be required.
Continue towards Sangla through Rampur and the Sutlej Valley.
The approximate road distance is 150–170 kilometres, and the journey generally takes 7–9 hours including suitable stops and sightseeing.
Proceed through Karcham and take the connecting road into Sangla Valley.
Arrive in Sangla, check in at the hotel and relax.

Day 03 · Sangla, Kamru, Rakchham and Chitkul Sightseeing
After breakfast, begin private sightseeing around Sangla Valley.
Visit Kamru village and walk towards the Kamru Fort complex. The package vehicle can travel only to the nearest accessible road point, after which uphill walking is required.
Continue through the Baspa Valley towards Rakchham and Chitkul.
Spend time around the accessible village areas, traditional houses, temple surroundings and safe viewpoints near the Baspa River.
Chitkul is situated at approximately 3,450 metres above sea level. Walk slowly, remain hydrated and avoid restricted or unsafe riverbank areas.

Day 04 · Sangla to Kalpa via Reckong Peo

Day 06 · Tabo to Kaza via Gue and Dhankar

Continue towards Dhankar. Visit the accessible areas around Dhankar village and monastery. Dhankar Lake requires a separate uphill trek and is not included in the standard sightseeing plan.
The approximate route distance is 80–120 kilometres depending on the covered diversions, and the journey with sightseeing may take 5–7 hours.
Proceed towards Kaza, check in at the hotel and relax.

Day 07 · Local Sightseeing around Kaza, Langza, Hikkim, Komic, Key, Kibber and Chicham
After breakfast, begin private sightseeing around Kaza and the surrounding high-altitude villages.
Visit selected accessible points around Langza, Hikkim and Komic according to road conditions and available time.
Hikkim is known for its high-altitude post office, while Langza is known for its fossil-bearing landscape and mountain views. Fossils, stones or protected natural material should not be removed from restricted areas.
Continue towards Key Monastery, subject to operating timings, religious observances and local access.
Visit Kibber village and Chicham Bridge according to the permitted route and available daylight.
This sightseeing circuit generally requires 6–8 hours. The exact sequence may be changed by the driver to suit weather, traffic and road conditions.
Return to Kaza after sightseeing.

Day 08 · Kaza to Chandratal via Losar and Kunzum Pass
After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel and begin the seasonal journey towards Chandratal.
Travel through Losar and cross Kunzum Pass only if officially open and considered safe.
The approximate road distance is 90–110 kilometres, and the journey may take 5–8 hours because of rough roads, stones, water crossings, traffic and weather conditions.
According to the 2026 local route update, a nala crossing that previously caused frequent stoppages during strong water flow has been repaired or improved. Nevertheless, travellers must remain prepared for other rough sections and fresh route disruptions.
The vehicle will travel only to the legally permitted and safely accessible parking point. Walking may be required to reach the designated lake-viewing area.
Arrive at the confirmed seasonal camp near Chandratal or Batal. Camp location depends on operating permission, route access and availability.
Dinner and overnight stay near Chandratal or at Batal.
Important: If Chandratal, Kunzum Pass or the connecting road is closed, the itinerary and overnight location will be changed according to the accessible route, safety advice and available accommodation.
Day 09 · Chandratal or Batal to Manali – Rough-Road Journey
Begin the journey early after breakfast.
Travel towards Batal, Chhatru and Gramphu before continuing to Manali through the accessible route and Atal Tunnel.
The approximate road distance is 110–130 kilometres, but the journey commonly takes 7–10 hours or longer because of extremely rough surfaces, water crossings, road repairs, traffic and weather conditions.
This is not a normal highway journey. Travellers must remain seated when instructed, avoid unnecessary stops at unsafe locations and follow the driver’s directions regarding water crossings, waiting points and departure time.
The 2026 nala improvement may reduce disruption at one previously problematic crossing, but it does not make the entire route smooth or guarantee a fixed arrival time.
Rohtang Pass is not included in the standard journey because the normal operational route proceeds through Atal Tunnel. A Rohtang Pass visit requires separate route planning, permits, time and additional cost.
Additional sightseeing around Solang Valley cannot be guaranteed on this transfer day.

Day 10 · Manali to Chandigarh – Departure
After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel and begin the private return journey towards Chandigarh.
The approximate road distance is 270–310 kilometres, and the journey generally takes 8–10 hours depending on traffic, road works, weather and the confirmed drop location.
Suitable comfort and meal breaks will be provided during the journey.
Additional sightseeing cannot be guaranteed on the departure day.
Drop will be provided at Chandigarh Airport, Railway Station, a hotel or another agreed location.

Best Time for the Complete Spiti Circuit
The complete Chandigarh–Kinnaur–Spiti–Chandratal–Manali circuit is normally possible only after Kunzum Pass and the Kaza–Manali road officially open.This often happens during the summer, but the exact opening and closing dates change every year.June may offer snow-lined mountain views, but early-season road work and water crossings can cause delays.July and August may offer access to the complete circuit, but rainfall in Kinnaur and other parts of Himachal can increase the risk of landslides, shooting stones and road disruption.September generally offers clearer views and lower rainfall, but nights become colder.October travel is increasingly dependent on snowfall, camp operations and the official closing of Kunzum Pass and Chandratal.No booking should be confirmed solely on the basis of a general seasonal date. The live route status must be checked before departure.
Weather, Altitude and Acclimatisation
Kaza is situated at approximately 3,650 metres, while Chandratal is situated at approximately 4,300 metres above sea level.Weather can change rapidly, and nights may remain very cold even during summer.Travellers may experience headache, nausea, tiredness, disturbed sleep or other altitude-related discomfort. Remain hydrated, avoid overexertion and follow medical and local advice.Travellers with heart, lung, blood-pressure, mobility or other relevant medical concerns should consult their doctor before confirming the tour.
Kaza–Manali Road Condition
The Kaza–Manali route is one of the roughest sections of the complete circuit.Road surfaces can be broken or absent around Losar, Kunzum Pass, Batal, Chhatru and Gramphu. Travellers should expect stones, water crossings, dust, vibration and slow progress.Sedans and small low-ground-clearance cars are not suitable for this package. A bigger, high-ground-clearance and route-approved vehicle is compulsory.Travel time cannot be calculated only from the distance. A journey of approximately 110–130 kilometres may require 7–10 hours or longer.
Chandratal Nala and 2026 Route Improvement
A nala crossing on the Chandratal route that previously caused recurring stoppages during strong water flow has been repaired or improved during the 2026 season, according to current local ground information.This is a useful route improvement, but other water crossings and vulnerable sections remain. Heavy rainfall, fresh snow, melting snow, landslides or new road damage can still affect access.The latest police, administration and driver instructions must always take priority over the published itinerary.
Route Closure and Alternative Plan
If Kunzum Pass, Chandratal or the Kaza–Manali road is closed, the driver will travel only on the route permitted by the authorities.Depending on the location and timing of the closure, the itinerary may require an alternative stay, a return towards Kaza or another revised route.Any material change, extra night or additional transportation cost will be explained to the traveller wherever communication is available.
Road and Permit Information
Indian travellers should carry valid government-issued photo identification throughout the tour.Foreign nationals may require a Protected Area Permit or Inner Line Permit for specified parts of Kinnaur and Spiti. After successful payment and verification, the booking confirmation and tour voucher will be shared by email and WhatsApp within one working day. A dedicated Tour Manager will also be assigned.
